Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must first be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:26-28
The first thing I notice in this passage of Scripture is how Jesus redefines great/greatness through servanthood.
As believers in Christ, we must follow Jesus's example and define words and things as He does.
The world's view of great/ greatness often has to do with money, power, dominance, status and achievement.
When Jesus spoke this Scripture, he flipped the Script. He says to be great is to be the servant of all. It's not about what you have acquired, achieved, gained, or accumulated but how humble you become. Being great is all about serving others; it is not what you acquire for yourself but how well you serve those around you.
By placing Himself in the equations, Christ says, "Look at who I am. Yet I did not come to be served but to serve." And if you want to be like me, you must also become a servant. You must identify as a servant who is there to stoop low to lift others.
So, in your walk as a child of God, we must understand the Kingdom Principle.
Greatness is not a title before your name, a platform under your feet, or a number in your bank account.
Greatness is how low you are willing to go so others can rise; it is the humility you possess to serve others.
