"This profound meditation on the transformative power of love was penned by my dear sister in Christ, F.L., whose childhood was governed by fear. Shared with her permission, this piece embodies the heart of 'Still His'—a testament to how perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). May it speak to every wall you've built and every bridge you're called to cross." -Angela Doreen.
▪️▪️ LOVE VS. FEAR ▪️▪️
The opposite of love is not hate.
That is because hate is a distorted form of love.
Some believe that indifference, where one does not even feel hatred, is the opposite of love.
However, that does not necessarily mean that love will work if one is interested.
The opposite of love, and the force that blocks the workings of love, is fear.
Fear is the complete opposite of love, sealing itself in darkness and infinitely separating people from each other.
Fear creates misunderstandings, fosters suspicion, and sometimes turns people into demonic beings.
Fear once dominated the Cold War between the East and the West.
Fear from the East built the Berlin Wall, and fear from the West started the Vietnam War.
Fear leads to more fear,
which gives rise to oppression and violence within the country, such as mutual surveillance systems and secret police, and to the outside world, where excessive nuclear missiles get deployed and tensions rise.
However, when people overcame their fears
and cried out for freedom in solidarity,
dictatorships crumbled, walls disappeared, and the Cold War ended.
And it happened so abruptly.
The enemy they had to fight was their fears, not the East or the West.
It is not about foreign countries.
Do you realise that fear unwittingly dominates our present life?
Fearing others,
losing your sense of self,
fearing change,
day after day, shutting yourself in.
Overreactions born from fear,
pointless doubts and conflicts.
What are we afraid of?
The saying goes, "The ghost's true form is revealed to the withered pampas grass."
As you walk down a dark street,
You suddenly see a shadow swaying softly.
You instinctively cry out, "There it is..." and faint, but when you look closely, you realise it is a head of silver grass swaying in the wind.
Silver grass is not guilty.
People create frightening illusions and are frightened of themselves.
How much of myself have I lost because of that fear, and how much love have I lost?
I want to face people without fear.
I want to remove the barbed wire from my inner borders and start walking.
Only then can I meet people who have always been far away from me?
The joy of meeting them gives me the strength to fight my fears even more.
There is no fear in this world that I cannot overcome.
Because all fears are of my own making.
Your fear is your loneliness.
"There is no fear in love. Perfect love casts out fear." (1 John 4:18, New Revised Standard Version)
"There is no fear in love. (Fear does not exist.) Fully grown (complete, perfect) love casts out fear. (It completely banishes fear.)" (Amplified Translation)
"Why should we fear the one who loves us so dearly? If we are afraid, it is evidence that we are worried about what God will do to us. God's perfect love casts out all such fear. Those who are afraid do not yet fully understand God's love." (Living Bible Translation)
"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear." (NIV translation)
"Let us make no room in love for fear.

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Love Overcomes Fear in Human Relationships
LOVE VS. FEAR
A Reflection from "Still His"
Fumi's words pierce me because they expose what we often miss: Scripture doesn't merely call love fear's antidote—it declares fear love's opposite. The world says courage cancels fear, but God's Word reveals a more profound truth: Fear flees where love flourishes (1 John 4:18).
Where is fear holding you captive?
Is it the barbed wire of others' opinions? The surveillance system of your self-doubt?
The "nuclear missiles" of a hypothetical tomorrow?
Fumi's testimony—that "all fears are of my own making"—aligns with Scripture's diagnosis: Fear thrives in the absence of love because it is love's void. Not hate. Not indifference.
Fear.
The truth stares us in the face as to why Christ's command isn't "Be brave," but "Abide in My love"(John 15:9). When love becomes our dwelling place, fear becomes a foreign language.
Let's therefore pray:
Father, expose where fear has masqueraded as wisdom in my life. Help me tear down its walls not with my willpower but with Your perfect love—the love Fumi describes, the love Christ proved on the cross.
