Trust the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)
A World Out of Control
We live in a chaotic world—headlines scream wars, disasters, injustice, and confusion—and our personal lives aren't immune. We face sickness, financial hardship, broken relationships, and unanswered questions. In these moments, it's easy to wonder: Who's in control?
But God's Word answers that question with clarity and hope: God is in control. We are called not to panic but to trust.
Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart
Saying God is in control is not just a nice phrase—it's a call to activate Trust. Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart." That's not partial Trust or conditional Trust but wholehearted dependence.
Why trust God?
- He is sovereign:
Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases. (Psalm 115:3)
God is not surprised by anything. He is not scrambling to fix problems—He reigns over all.
- He is faithful
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. Great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
He is good:
And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good (Romans 8:28)
Even when life hurts, God works out His plan for our ultimate good.
To trust God with all our heart is to say: Lord, even when I don't understand, even when I can't see the way—I will still trust You.
Do Not Lean on Your Understanding
Many of us struggle with this. We try to figure things out on our own—we crave control. But Scripture warns us: Do not lean on your understanding.
Why? Because our understanding is limited.
My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD… so are my ways higher than yours. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
We don't see the whole picture, but God does. When we lean on our understanding, we're like someone trying to read a map in the dark. But when we lean on God, we walk in the light.
Think of Job—he suffered immensely and never fully understood why. Yet at the end, he declared:
I know that you can do whatever you desire, and all of your purposes will come to pass.. (Job 42:2)
He realised that God's plan is often hidden but always good.
In All Your Ways Acknowledge Him
Proverbs 3:6 calls us to acknowledge Him in all our ways—that means in every decision, every relationship, every moment of our day.
Acknowledging God isn't just a Sunday ritual—it's a daily mindset.
- When you're making a decision, pray.
- When you're facing fear—worship.
- When you start to worry, **remember God's promises.
Live the life of surrender—placing everything before God and saying, "Lord, have Your way."
1 Peter 5:6-7 echoes this:
Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, casting all your anxieties on him because he cares for you.
He Will Make Your Paths Straight
When we trust God, submit to His will, and seek Him daily, we experience direction and clarity in our lives.
He will make straight your paths.
You will go through difficulties; not every path will be easy, but it will be purposeful.
The Lord orders the steps of a righteous man when he delights in his way. (Psalm 37:23)
Man's heart plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)
God leads those who trust Him. He may not give us the whole map, but He lights our way to take the next step.
Walk in Trust, Not in Fear
Friend, whatever you're facing today—uncertainty, loss, confusion—remember this:
God is in control.
Do not let fear dictate your life, do not rely on your limited understanding, and do not run ahead of God.
Instead:
Trust Him with all your heart.
Let Him guide your steps and make your paths straight.
Thank you, Father, for you are always in control and have the final say. In Jesus' name, Amen. Written by Angela Doreen
